The most significant legislative change within special educational needs for over a decade is due for implementation nationally in September 2014 and WSCC’s position as a Pathfinder Authority means we have a key role in its development and delivery.

As a result, the Special Educational Needs & Assessment Team (SENAT) has a secondment opportunity for the right individual who is keen to be involved in this challenging but exciting time of change and to support our service to implement the new practices whilst maintaining its high standard of service to the county’s residents.

As a Team Manager in SENAT, you will manage an area team of Planning Coordinators and Caseworkers to ensure effective planning and provision for children and young people with special educational needs through Statutory/Coordinated Assessment, timely co-production of Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and support for their placements in West Sussex and other learning settings.

You will work to the Service Manager alongside other Team Managers. Experience in learning/SEN and an ability and willingness to learn and work to complex legal procedures, and support parents/carers through the process, is crucial. Excellent communication skills and a commitment to working in sometimes stressful situations are essential qualities for the job.

Salary £42,565 to £46,571

Secondment for 6 months with strong possibility that this will be extended to support the team's interpretation and implementation of new SEN legislation and associated processes.
