Local Government is in a significant period of change, with a reducing resource base, increasing demand, expectations and complexity. West Sussex County Council has set out a clear vision of the future and is undertaking a Transformation Programme to deliver that vision. At the same time, the organisation will need to develop an organisational culture and a pay, reward and recognition strategy which will attract, retain and motivate the best people. The Opportunity There are two roles available. You will be responsible for either supporting the development and delivery of a reward framework that will enable us to attract, retain and motivate great people or take management responsibility for delivery of all business as usual pay and reward activities. The Candidate You will be required to demonstrate a broad understanding of the wider elements of pay and reward. You will have significant experience of either managing day to day reward activities or designing and implementing new reward initiatives. Your experience will, ideally, be in a large organisation, with diverse pay arrangements and you will be able to demonstrate you can lead on pay activities /projects that span the Council. You will be able to analyse and interpret complex data to draw conclusions and make recommendations to Members and senior managers. You’ll be required to collaborate and build relationships with people across the Council and external partners. You will be able to demonstrate excellent negotiating and influencing skills and verbal and written communication skills, as well as an understanding of the political environment. Ideally you will have a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CIPD).
