We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Editor to support the business list in the Global Education editorial team. This position will provide editorial and administrative support to the development and publication of print and digital products. . The successful candidate will play an important role in working with authors, contributors, reviewers and third party vendors, as well as internal colleagues in the editorial, marketing and content management teams. . Key duties will involve: market research; appraisal of new projects; managing the reviewing process for new projects; checking and preparing manuscripts for handover to content management; managing the process of obtaining copyright permissions; and keeping records up to date.

Prior publishing experience is not essential for this role but applicants must demonstrate an interest in educational publishing. The ideal candidate will be proactive, well organised and able to work with colleagues to achieve tasks to set deadlines. They will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills and an eye for detail.

Selection criteria

  • Previous knowledge of the publishing industry and publishing process would be desirable
  • Knowledge of working with websites or online platforms is desirable
  • Excellent organisational skills and time management
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) to save time and optimize personal and/or departmental productivity and previous experience of using multiple systems is essential
  • Able to multi task and manage projects with minimal guidance
  • Able to maintain and build good relationships both externally in terms of author liaison and internally with the team
  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent is essential, educated to A Level or equivalent is desirable, degree level would be desirable.
