Would you like to be part of the most significant change for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families in the last 30 years? West Sussex County Council Special Educational Need Assessment teams (SENAT) provide an assessment and placement service for children. The primary task of SENAT is to co-ordinate SEN assessment and to produce and review coherent plans that articulate the outcomes desired by parents, children and professionals, across the continuum of provision. We are looking for an SEN Team Manager to manage one of our SEN Assessment Teams and respond to the challenges of the new way of working promoted by the Code of Practice 2014. You will be expected to contribute to the development and shape of SEN services and provision and to build and maintain professional relationships with all agencies and groups linked to either service. You will also act as the principal decision maker working to support the inclusion of children within schools and provision of specialist placements and services. You will be responsible for the performance management of the team with the support of the Service Manager, providing leadership and working within a clear performance-management structure. In addition to working directly with parents and schools, you must welcome a multi-disciplinary environment and work co-operatively with local managers from other agencies and parent groups. We are therefore looking for someone who has experience of or can learn to work across professional and organisational boundaries to promote the best outcomes for children and young people. A post graduate professional qualification relevant to SEN is essential for this post as well as significant experience of working with children with SEN.
