Our highways team has recently been redesigned to make us fit for purpose for the future and to ensure that all aspects of our work are truly customer facing.

Our new structure has generated a number of exciting new opportunities for highway professionals. Our jobs in highways will be regularly updated during the month of June and so do keep an eye on what we have to offer.

Initially based County Hall Chichester, and in around 2 years’ time the post will be based at a new highway depot location yet to be determined, however, it is expected to be approximately east of the centre of the county.

We are looking for an experienced and talented Project Manager to manage and lead on the County’s Highway Structures projects.

West Sussex Highways & Transportation Service has a high profile within the County Council with highway related issues accounting for a significant percentage of the Council’s customer enquiries. Managing our customers’ expectations is one of our most important aims and good project management with our structures works-programme helps us fulfil this goal.

We need to ensure timely delivery of projects and demonstrate value for money for our works and we are therefore looking for a motivated individual with a proven track record in project management, ideally in a structures related environment. You will have an aptitude for understanding complex technical data and have excellent project management skills. You will have the ability to influence and work collaboratively with other engineers and managers as well as exhibiting positive management behaviours.

To succeed in this demanding role you will need to have considerable experience in the delivery and design of highway structures and related maintenance practices. You will have a critical eye for detail and the ability to understand and input into our asset management plans.

The role requires collaborative working across the whole of the highways and transport service, including close working with Members of the county council.
