We have an exciting opportunity to become a casual highway vehicle inspection driver. This role will involve driving a vehicle to facilitate the routine inspection of the Highway throughout West Sussex. You will follow prescribed routes and drive a speed appropriate to the type of inspection being undertaken. Key accountabilities for this role include but are not limited to using judgmental skills where there is a need to solve straightforward problems such as a change needed in a route schedule, and driving an inspection vehicle with due care and attention as directed, using a high level of professionalism and in a safe and appropriate way. This job requires general awareness with short periods of concentrated sensory attention, e.g. for driving while remaining aware of the requirements of the Highway Inspector and other road users. This job also involves on-going considerable physical effort, for example, removing highway obstructions. The job involves some exposure to unpleasant working conditions e.g. fumes, weather conditions and temperature extremes. You may be required to wear personnel protective equipment (PPE), if so the PPE will be provided. To be suitable for this post, you will need to have a sound knowledge of the theory and application of the Highway Code and a sound knowledge and application of Health and Safety policies and requirements. You will require a full, valid UK driving license, category D1 status preferred.
