There’s a real momentum at West Sussex County Council. We’re focused on creating more positive outcomes for children and their families and we have the optimism and enthusiasm to achieve it.

We’ve already redesigned our service, transforming both our systems and the way we work. We’ve been inspired as one of only ten authorities involved in the Signs of Safety England Innovations Project.

Join us as a social worker, and you’ll be empowered. With experienced people around you and a leadership team backing you up, you’ll be in an environment in which you can focus on real social work and the child’s journey. We’re talking manageable caseloads and good access to administrative support and reflective supervision. Add excellent training including five guaranteed days of CPD per year, and it’s a winning formula.

The Child and Family Intervention Service (CFIS) provides a range of direct work to parents/carers and their children, with the following intended outcomes:
• parents/carers improved understanding of children’s needs
• parents/carers increased positive parenting and care of children
• parents/carers to increased confidence and knowledge of parenting
• parents/carers improved adult/child relationships
• parents/carers address of physical and emotional safety and risk concerns for children
• parents/carers identification and understanding of lifestyle choices and decisions which impact on parenting
• contributions to the decision making and care planning processes for children

CFIS interventions are provided via individual work with adults and children both separately and together, and in appropriate circumstances group work programmes for both adults and children.

CFIS interventions will be underpinned by an approach to working with children and their families which is child focused, based on attachment theory, consideration of parental and child relationship trauma, neuro-science and brain development, child development and safeguarding and child protection.

CFIS interventions and their related outcomes will make a clear contribution to the activities identified to achieve stated safety goals for the children and his/her family – as reflected in the relevant care plan for the child.
