About the Role

We are looking to recruit Fire Control Operators to join our busy control room, based at Mill Green Road, Haywards Heath, as temporary and permanent positions arise.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

- Receipt of emergency calls from members of the public and other agencies;

- Monitor and mobilise fire appliances and their crews to deal with incidents across East and West Sussex;

- Offer support and guidance to callers requiring assistance;

- Maintain Service information systems and databases to support operational activity.

Ideally you will have previous experience working in a control room for Emergency Services or within the Fire Service and have a confident telephone manner, good keyboard skills, together with the ability to think and communicate quickly and clearly. You will need to demonstrate the ability to respond positively under pressure and work effectively in stressful situations. You will work a rotating shift pattern averaging 42 hours per week and will be required to work days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.

The salary for this position will be 21,125 per annum during initial training, rising to 22,004 per annum during development and 28,156 once competent.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.
