The department recognises that whilst comprehensive, collaborative planning and relationship-based practice remain at the heart of social work, there are times when additional support is required. Keyworkers sometimes need to respond to unforeseen factors, which undermine the stability of a young person’s home environment. As the complexity of human relationships does not limit itself to office hours, young people and their carers may require additional help during the evenings, weekends, sometimes as a matter of urgency. In response to this, we have developed an exciting new adolescent support service, which provides bespoke, intensive community intervention packages to families and children, where there is a risk of placement or family breakdown or a need to support reintegration home following a care episode. This work is undertaken alongside the social worker, as part of a statutory plan, designed to support children and their carers through crises, with a view to achieving long-term stability. The Extended Adolescent Service offers creative and meaningful responses to presenting needs, in the belief that trust and consistency of care are key to achieving positive outcomes for children. We are seeking a dynamic individual to work with adolescents and their carers, on a flexible basis. We are looking for applicants with a sound understanding of child development and risk and resilience factors in adolescents and children. We will be recruiting those with experience of working with vulnerable and challenging young people and families, who are familiar with working in partnership with other professionals. As far as possible, weekly working hours will be responsive to the young person’s needs and rotas will set in accordance with the care plan and reviews. However, there is room for flexibility, as shifts will meet the needs of the service-user and support worker. This may mean that workers who, for example, have provided intensive support over a long weekend, have a week with no work commitments. This role would suit workers wishing to build upon their existing childcare experience, who relish the freedom and flexibility that a responsive, crisis intervention model, can offer. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to help to with the ongoing formation of this relatively new service, whilst being an integral part of the multi-dimensional Adolescent Service, comprising the various specialisms provided within a city centre base . We are looking for enthusiastic, intuitive, assertive, robust and imaginative individuals who will contribute to the success of the team’s work in reducing the need to move children from safe and stable environments. Enhanced rates are paid for unsocial hours.
