During a typical day working at the County Council, as a Business Solutions Officer you might undertake business analysis for a Fire & Rescue workshop in the morning, then find yourself presenting to Children’s Safeguarding professionals in the afternoon. Our residents rely on us and our business functions rely on well-designed and executed IT to enable and support them. As one of the Council’s IT professionals you will be presented with real challenges as you help research and design solutions for a diverse set of business functions and customer groups.

The role of Business Solutions Officer will work with others in IT services and across the Council to provide research, analysis, evaluation and recommendations on key issues, projects and technology, process or information solutions. The holder of this role will effectively engage with stakeholders and business colleagues, undertaking research and data collection, collation of information and analysis performed, this intelligence will contribute to an evidence base that will underpin decisions made in support of effective management of Council functions, the development of change projects and addressing other issues and problems that arise.

You will be able to demonstrate good knowledge of relevant current technology and trends relevant in the public sector and understand the value of data. You will be able to build strong relationships with senior business leaders and other stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes. You will be a highly motivated, dynamic individual with the ability to solve problems.

The responsibilities of the Business Solutions Officer will include:

•Working with key stakeholders to elicit high-level requirements and formulation of approach in capturing of business needs
•Liaising with business teams, technology partners and stakeholders to provide expertise and input to deliver on business objectives and processes
•Establishing an understanding of business aims, identification of business processes in need of improvement and development of alternative processes
•Consulting with the stakeholders to identify the right initiatives to carry forward, assessing their feasibility
•Assessing the implications of business change, analysing and mapping business processes and identifying the activities needed to transition to new ways of working
•Developing and maintaining accurate and comprehensive documentation of business requirements, processes and systems
•Analysis and recommendation of options to deliver a technical solution that best fits business requirements, within scope and budget
•Assessing the risks of various solutions and prioritising competing business demands
•Providing input and support throughout the full project lifecycle

The successful Business Solutions Officer will have the following skills and experience:

•Good understanding of information technology and business concepts
•Able to operate within a matrix type organisation through use of softer skills such as consulting and influencing
•Planning, documentation, analysis and business requirements management techniques
•Problem solving and strong communication skills
•Able to research – investigate, assess, and assimilate relevant professional and business material to further improve the overall solution approach
•Able to think laterally - creative thinking and problem solving skills
• Identification of functional and business requirements gathering
•Experience of working with a range of stakeholders
•Able to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language
•Ability to take an analytical and methodical approach

This role may also suit individuals who hold or have previously held the position of Business Process Analyst, Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst
