Do you have experience operating petrol strimmers and / or drive on mowers? Or alternatively perhaps you have experience in landscape gardening or similar? Provided that your driving licence has the "category K" endorsement then we have a really enjoyable role that may suit you - working in the fresh air around the seaside town of Selsey.

Selsey Town Council are responsible for looking after 5 substantial parks and play areas and some smaller areas of land by the seafront. Our team of 2 Maintenance Operatives are responsible for keeping these areas maintained and tidy in addition to looking after the indoor maintenance of the Selsey Centre and Town Hall. We are now seeking a third Maintenance Operative to become part of the team carrying out this work.

Our friendly team's duties include:

• We start each day with a 2 hour litter pick
• Mowing the various grass areas using our drive on mower (which needs to be driven on the road between sites)
• Strimming using a petrol strimmer (experience would be preferred)
• Looking after the Town Hall and Selsey Centre (this includes an element of painting and decorating)
• Maintaining the mowers, strimmers and equipment (full training can be given)
• Ah hoc maintenance jobs
• Driving the tipper truck and van
• Maintaining and checking the safety of the play equipment in the parks eg checking shackles on swings and seats etc to ROSPA standards (full training will be given)

• To have the category K on your driving license as this is needed to drive the drive on mower (Category K was included in all full licenses issued before January 1997 or can be taken as a separate test on licenses issued after this date).
• To be happy working in the outdoors in all weathers
• To be a good team player
• To be physically able to operate the equipment (eg petrol strimmer)
• To be happy to only take your annual leave at times outside of our busiest months of June, July and August.
• To be responsible (you will be a key holder for some council buildings - on a very rare occasion [once or twice per year approximately] you may need to let someone in in out of hours on an urgency basis
• If you hold an industry recognised, current chainsaw certificate this would be advantageous (although not essential).
