Visiting Lecturer – School of Design
Location: Bloomsbury, London
Contract: Seasonal, with no guaranteed hours

About the roleWe are seeking talented and enthusiastic Visiting Lecturers to join our School of Design in Bloomsbury, London.
This is an opportunity for experienced design practitioners and educators to share their professional knowledge, inspire emerging talent and contribute to the delivery of engaging, contemporary design education across our BA, Diploma and Certificate programmes.
Working closely with the Programme Leader and wider academic team, you will deliver high-quality teaching, practical demonstrations, tutorials and assessments. You will help students develop their technical expertise, creative confidence and understanding of current industry practice.
This is a seasonal opportunity, with teaching offered on an ad hoc basis according to curriculum requirements and teaching needs. We are looking to build a pool of suitably qualified lecturers who can support the programme when required. Teaching dates and the number of days will be agreed in advance.
Key responsibilities- Deliver engaging, high-quality design teaching across relevant programmes and subject areas.
- Plan and develop contemporary teaching materials in collaboration with the Programme Leader and academic colleagues.
- Demonstrate specialist design techniques and support students in developing their practical and creative skills.
- Provide tutorials, formative and summative assessments, and constructive feedback to support student progression.
- Keep teaching content relevant to current design practice and industry expectations.
- Maintain appropriate learning materials and information on the College’s virtual learning environment.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive and student-centred learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with academic, technical and student support colleagues to support student learning and wellbeing.
You will be an experienced design practitioner and/or educator with a passion for sharing your knowledge and helping students reach their potential.
You will bring a strong understanding of contemporary design practice, excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver engaging, supportive and professionally relevant teaching.
Essential requirements- An undergraduate and postgraduate degree in design or a related subject area.
- At least three years’ experience in teaching and learning within design or a related subject.
- Professional experience in the design industry or a related field.
- Experience developing teaching and learning materials.
- Experience of formative and summative assessment and providing clear, constructive student feedback.
- Experience demonstrating specialist techniques in the production of design work.
- Knowledge of contemporary design practice and the skills required to succeed in the design industry.
- The ability to plan and organise teaching and communicate clearly with students and colleagues.
- Competence in relevant digital design tools, including AutoCAD, SketchUp and Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience of online teaching, a teaching and learning qualification, Fellowship of Advance HE, and familiarity with Revit and BIM would be advantageous.
Working arrangements and paymentThis is a seasonal role with no guaranteed hours. Teaching opportunities will be offered according to programme requirements and availability, with dates agreed in advance.
The day rate will depend on experience, with reasonable pre-agreed expenses payable where applicable. Visiting Lecturers will invoice the Foundation for work completed, with payment made in accordance with the Foundation’s standard invoice payment terms.
