About the Role
The purpose of this role is to deliver high quality teaching that inspires curiosity, confidence and achievement in all students. The successful candidate will model outstanding classroom practice, contribute positively to a collaborative team environment, and support a culture of reflective and inclusive teaching.
A key focus of the role is raising student engagement and attainment by removing barriers to learning and ensuring every learner is supported to reach their full potential. Through building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations and engaging in continuous professional development, the post holder will play an important role in delivering an ambitious and inclusive curriculum aligned with the values and vision of NCW.
Main Responsibilities1. Teaching, Learning and Student Experience
- Deliver engaging, well planned and effective lessons in Psychology and Sociology at Key Stage 5.
- Develop inclusive teaching strategies that meet the needs of all learners, including students with visual impairments and additional learning needs.
- Embed personalised learning approaches to support student confidence, independence and achievement.
- Contribute to departmental development and support initiatives that enhance teaching, learning and outcomes.
- Create, review and adapt schemes of work to meet curriculum and examination board requirements.
- Assess, monitor and track student progress, using data effectively to set aspirational targets and support achievement.
- Assist the Head of Department and senior leaders in ensuring the curriculum contributes to the school's strategic objectives.
- Maintain accurate and up to date student records, registers and assessment information using the school's management information systems.
- Participate in Parents' Evenings and other events that support student progress and engagement.
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate.
- Identify and raise concerns regarding students' welfare, progress or wellbeing, making recommendations to support positive outcomes.
- Provide high quality written, oral and diagnostic feedback to help students make excellent progress.
- Comply with all college policies, procedures and statutory requirements.
- Support the effective use of resources within the department.
- Promote and maintain a safe, healthy and positive learning environment at all times.
- Uphold the values, vision and Statement of Purpose of NCW.
- Adhere to all safeguarding, child protection, equality, diversity and inclusion policies.
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating professionalism and high expectations in all aspects of the role.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance practice and contribute to the wider school community.
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
- Relevant teaching qualification.
Essential
- Experience of teaching A Level Psychology.
- Experience of teaching A Level Sociology.
- Strong understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies.
- Ability to deliver engaging lessons that promote high levels of student achievement.
Desirable
- Experience of working with students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
- Evidence of contributing to improvements beyond your own classroom or department.
